Frequently asked questions – FAQs

Why do I need the yogi?

The yogi indoor air and water quality test kit helps you assess your indoor environment at home, work, and anywhere you spend time. Compare us to the competition, including other do-it-yourself products and professional services.

Importantly, if you’re already aware of a problem, it may be best to contact a local specialist to discuss remediation options. Live Pure is not affiliated with any specialists, but publicly available resources can be found at the American Industrial Hygiene Association.

Do I need more than one?

What would you like to test? The yogi will assess the environment in which it is placed. Therefore, if you would like an overall screening of your home, open all interior doors and closets so that air will flow throughout your home. One yogi will provide a screening of a 2,000 square foot area.

For larger homes, or to test a specific room, a second set of air sample traps is recommended and can be purchased here: Add -a- Room. For a comprehensive mold and allergen screening, we recommend adding the Mold & Allergens – Ten Piece to your order. If you would like to share your pump with friends and family, a complete trap kit, including radon and water traps, can be purchased here: Complete Re-Test.

How do I use the yogi?

The yogi assesses the environment in which it’s placed, so if you’d like an overall screening of your home, open all interior doors and closets so that air flows throughout your home. If you are concerned with just one area – a child’s room, an area with new laminate flooring, etc., keep that test area closed off.

Radon sampling must be conducted in the lowest livable area of the indoor environment, and all doors and windows to this area must be closed 12 hours prior to and during sample collection, but come and go as you normally would.

To see how easy testing is check out this short video.

How long will it take to collect the samples?

Samples for radon take forty-eight hours. All other samples take just minutes and can be collected during the radon test.

Can you tell me more about mold sampling?

Q       Why should I collect air samples for mold?

A       Moisture intrusion, water damage, musty odors or visible mold growth are all common reasons for collecting an air sample.

Q       Why is an outside sample necessary for a spore trap analysis?

A       In order to evaluate whether mold spores found on indoor samples are a result of indoor growth, it is necessary to understand some of the outdoor contributions. An outdoor sample should be collected as close in time as possible to the indoor samples for an accurate comparison.

Q       If I did not take an outside sample, can I still have my spore trap sample analyzed?

A       Yes, but it may not be possible to determine whether the indoor environment is normal or not without an outdoor comparison.

Q       How many samples should I collect?

A       We recommend that at least one sample be collected from each level of a multi-story home, or each wing of a single-level home. In cases where mold was visually identified in one location, the additional samples may help determine whether the problem is localized or widespread. For an in-depth analysis, collect a sample from each inhabitable room of the home.
